The Times 03/Jan/2009 Chancellor on brink of second bailout for banks” was embedded in the coinbase transaction of the block text. It was a reference to a headline which the UK based newspaper, The Times had published on that date. The note has been interpreted as both a timestamp and a form of ridicule towards the instability caused by fractional reserved banking.

Satoshi would continue to collaborate with other developers in developing the bitcoin software until the middle of 2010. Satoshi often made modifications to the source code on his own. He gave control of the network alert key and source code repository to Gavin Andresen . In the process he also transferred plenty of the related domain to well known members of the bitcoin community and he also stopped his recognized involvement in the project.

The mystery of the Identity of Nakamoto

Satoshi Nakamoto has never revealed his personal information during his discussion of technical matters. He has provided his opinion on banking and the banking system in the past but has never divulged in the sharing of personal information. Nakamoto has written on his P2P Foundation profile in 2012 claiming to be a 37 year old Japanese man. Some people have considered the fact that Nakamoto might be a group of persons working together to achieve a common goal. A security researcher who read the bitcoin code said that he could either be a group of persons or a genius. A developer who has emailed Nakamoto has stated that he believe the code is too well designed for one person. The use of the Queen’s English in both source code comments and forum posts with the use of words such as “colour” and “bloody” has lead many to believe that Nakamoto is of British Commonwealth origins.

The reference to the Times Newspaper, based in London, in the first bitcoin block mining, which was done by Satoshi suggested to some persons that he had a peculiar interest in British governance. Stefan Thomas, a Swiss software engineer and active community member of the forum that Satoshi Nakamoto has posted over 500 posts on. He graphed the timestamps for each of Nakamoto’s bitcoin forum posts. The graph showed that there was a steep decline between the hours of 5 a.m. and 11a.m. Greenwich Mean Time. This was the equivalent of between the hours of 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Japanese time.

This suggested an unusual sleep pattern for someone who presumably lives in Japan . Due to the fact that this pattern help true even on Saturdays and Sunday, it was suggested that Nakamoto was asleep at this time. As a result of these findings many persons have deduced that it is unlikely that Satoshi is from Japan.
